About Michele

In the Beginning…

There was never enough time in a day. As I look back, I have to wonder, how did I ever manage to be an active performer, all while being a dedicated elementary classroom teacher for 35 years. I was active in our teacher’s union, and at some point, I even taught computers to adults. Throughout this all, my husband, Glenn, and I raised two children. Yes I actively performed with a classical flute/guitar duo, and various flute duos/trios and did improvisation with other bands that came along as opportunities presented themselves. I performed in churches, musicals, several concerts, and I even adjudicated for the local all-county solo festival for several years.During my years of public school teaching, I would practice late in the night as no other time was available to me.

Fast forward:

After retiring from teaching in 2008, I’m now able to delve into a passion of mine- jazz! and dedicate myself to music in a way that there just wasn’t time for in the past. My life is blessed with numerous amazing musical experiences that keep opening up to me.

I continue to study jazz and perform in many capacities throughout NY and PA. I’ve been lucky enough to be selected to perform (and solo with) with the National Flute Association’s Jazz Flute Big Bands for the last 8 years. It’s allowed me the opportunity to work along side many talented musicians and to perform at conventions in several cities across the US.

I should probably also mention- I also managed to raise a son that’s a fabulous jazz musician. Not only did he earn his doctorate in music from the prestigious Eastman School of Music, but he recently joined the Air Force Band of the Golden West. (colingordonmusic.com)
